About us at Nordic Art images
About us at Nordic Art images online, all of the current photography is by me (Vesa Leinonen), and this blog is written by me. My training is in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry as a Chef. I did my schooling and training in the Capital city of Canberra in Australia. I think Australia is a very unique and fair country to live in, and I am proud to have lived and grown up there since I was in school.
Experience of the Nordic region
I currently live in the Nordic region of Finland, where I enjoy observing the Nordic climate and the ongoing seasonal changes. The rich natural resources of the environment are great for living a basic, humble lifestyle and for healthy living. There are many berries, for example, that can be harvested during summer and the autumn season for the winter in most parts of Southern Finland. There are also the many lakes and ponds that some lucky fishermen get to use as a natural resource for food, but these are regional and not accessible for everybody, especially for those living in the city metropolitan areas.
Country living on the traditional land
There is a large chunk of older folk in the Nordic region that have learned from their parents the skills of living on and off the land, from their parents, they make use of the natural resources that nature provides during the summer season. They know when to gather berries, and mushrooms and they know how to prepare food items, from those natural resources; such as berry juice, jams, baked pies, buns, and wholesome rye bread. The traditional way of life in the early nineteenth century was very labor-some and took a big chunk of the overall time. There was not much free time available because life was too often a busy activity filled with many tasks and chores. There were the early rise and responsibility for animal husbandry: milking cows, feeding horses, sheep, goats and pigs, and gathering eggs and feeding the chickens, day after day. Gathering feed for the animals during the summer and autumn would have been a huge task so that the animals would have food for the long winter while they are penned indoors.
Thank you for visiting Nordic Art Images, I hope you enjoy viewing the picture galleries online. Hopefully, through these images, you connect with the reality of the Nordic environment proximity to the North Pole and understand the slow environmental growth and adaption to the extremes of the Northern hemisphere. The flora has managed it well over many millennia, and most of the fauna is also content to stay and wait out the long winter cold with hope for the next warm summer. Enjoy Nordic Art images.
